We’re back at the beach! The Bride and Groom tested negative for coronavirus, left for Florida and quarantined there for a week, and then, ta da, we got in the car. I had a little panic attack about leaving our “safe place” but Bob gave me courage.
It was a seven hour drive through Alabama, pit stops were questionable since rest areas were crowded and MacDonalds was a no go. The last stop sold peaches, watermelons and tomatoes out front – bonanza!
We hugged the heck out of our grandbabies and it is heavenly. Hugs good morning and hugs good night! Hugs for no reason at all.
This area of 30A has soft, white powdery sand and tidal pools that remind me of Menemsha Pond on the Vineyard. When the Bride was a toddler this was my “happy place.” Warm, brackish water only a few feet deep, perfect for sand castles and clam digging.
Time stops here, where an emerald sea holds dolphins and sea turtle nests scatter around the beach. Be careful not to make holes in the sand when you walk, the baby turtles might get trapped.
The Flapper used to tell me that I was in my “perfect place,” because she believed in the power of positive thinking. And I told the Love Bug how she would cover me with cold wet tea bags to soothe my sunburn. Because, when I was young, we didn’t have sunscreen.
I hear the L’il Pumpkin calling, “Nana, Nana…” so I must go. Because we have to get in the golf cart and GO, and we have treasures to find, and the beach is calling. And Bob calls me a camp counselor but really I just remember back when our kids were little,
And I’m grateful to play with our littles again.

Enjoy! Stay safe. We can’t get too comfortable. I’ve been able to see my 3 NJ grands throughout and w/o that I would have lost my mind, The Israeli crowd,. who knows when we can travel again. Alas. Being a camp counselor is what we do!
I know! Dreaming about renting an RV and driving to California. We have groceries delivered and no restaurants, but people here are not wearing masks! So early beach only.
The mask thing is so worrying. They’re less complacency in NY/NJ area now too.
We are pretty much walking to the beach and back to the pool. Hugs and stay well Lisa!
I’m so happy for your beautiful family. Have a wonderful time!
Thanks so much Esther! Hope all is well back in Nashville
That’s wonderful. I admire your courage. I am nervous about leaving my cocoon.
It is unnerving at times, not a lot of masks here. But the beach is fine in the early morning!
I just saw a news story out of Toronto showing thousands of people on the beaches there – no masks, no physical distancing. Locally we have five more cases today, which doesn’t seem like much, but we hadn’t had any in two weeks now the numbers are creeping up again. I wonder if people know that this bloody virus doesn’t take a summer vacation? It’s very worrisome. I am so glad you are watching out for yourself and your family. I wish everyone would.
