Retired journalist and empty-nester moves south to write in her aviary!
Married to Bob, an ER doc and original maverick who specialized in Emergency Medicine long before it was considered an actual medical sub-specialty. We have two adult children: the firstborn, our daughter the Bride, who married our son-in-law the Groom in 2010. We were happy to welcome our 10 year old grand daughter, the Love Bug, and our 8 year old grandson, L’il Pumpkin, to the world! We were so happy, we abandoned the house we built with a Blue Ridge view and moved to Nashville over 5 years ago!
The Bride, is also an ER doc/pastry chef and her husband is a physician as well, working in Pulmonary/Critical Care at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Our son, the Rocker, is the Talent. It’s good to have another artist in the family! A gifted guitarist, he stayed north of the Mason Dixon line when we moved in order to play with his band, The Parlor Mob. They had a sensational decade of world touring and produced three albums; “And You Were a Crow” with the help of producer Jacquire King, and the iTunes Best Rock Album of the Year 2011 “Dogs,” and most recently “Cry Wolf.” The Rocker will also back up other artists/friends on the guitar, has appeared on David Letterman, among other TV shows.
Currently, the Rocker is composing music for the film industry in LA! He won 2 Cleos in 2017 for his work on Dunkirk, and 2 more the next year. Then he created his own company, TOTEMmx and I’ve honestly lost track of his awards. Congratulations to our beautiful Daughter-in-Law, Aunt KiKi, and our son who were married on a gorgeous winter day in the California desert. Kiki is an incredible designer and artist; her work was just featured on the cover of Architectural Digest’s 100 Best of the Best Design Talents in 2023! You might say I’m a proud mom and I don’t miss attending Zoning Board meetings and midnight deadlines.
MountainMornings is a series of expository essays; both public and personal. It’s about transitions: from north to south; from journalist to blogger; from Mom to Mother-of-the-Bride and Groom, Mother-in-Law, and now Nana!
Beware of a certain politically progressive, feminist slant!
Oh, and with some pictures of our rescue dogs too – the hundred pound Buddha went across his rainbow bridge in 2013, leaving us with our emergency back-up dog, little Ms Bean.

Hi Patti! Thanks and I’m eager to follow your journey as well. Maybe I should dust off my bike?
Found my here from Barb Younger’s blog. I like what you are saying here. I got pulled in quickly and spent a little time reading past post. I think I will stick around for awhile.
Christine: (Dover, HS?) Just saw your blog. Beautiful inspired writing. Best Wishes.
Hello Linda! It’s very kind of you to say. Someone once asked Bob what I write about, and he said “Anything and everything!”
